Charles and Ray Eames conceived the concept in the United States and it was created for the Museum of Modern Art's International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design. One moulded shell, made in quantity and made well, was the whole idea. Manufacture followed in Germany, Switzerland and the USA. This version was created by Modernica for Eames in Los Angeles in the late 2000s.
The shell is glass-fibre reinforced polyester in orange red, dyed through rather than painted, so the colour runs through the material instead of sitting on the surface. Against a chrome-plated base it is the piece in the room people look at first. Three examples are available.
These are untouched originals with some signs of ageing patina on the legs, photographed rather than polished out. Three are available and their wear is not identical, so we send images of the stool set aside for you and a written condition report before you commit. Height is measured against your counter or bar first.

We deliver nationwide with a specialist furniture courier, blanket wrapped, carried in and placed in the room you choose. Within North East England we deliver ourselves, usually inside the week, and collection is welcome by arrangement.
If a piece arrives and does not suit the room, tell us within fourteen days. We will arrange collection and refund what you paid. All we ask is that the piece comes back in the condition it arrived.
Vintage furniture is straightforward to live with. Keep pieces out of direct sun and away from radiators, wipe with a barely damp cloth, and wax timber once a year. Every piece comes with care notes written for its own materials.

Height is the number that decides whether a stool works in your room. We measure the example set aside for you and confirm it in writing before you commit, so send us the height of your counter, bar or table and we will tell you whether it suits.
They are the same model, base and colour. The wear is not identical, and the patina on the legs varies from stool to stool. If you want the closest three we will pick them and photograph them together.
No. The shell is dyed through, so the orange red runs through the material rather than sitting on the surface. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun and it will stay as photographed.
Every piece is one of one, so there is no basket. Send an enquiry and we will reply the same day where we can, usually with more photographs and the condition report. When you are ready, payment is by bank transfer and we arrange delivery.
Yes, for forty eight hours while you measure the room. Beyond that we take a small refundable deposit and mark the piece reserved until you decide.

Ready for daily use unless the listing says otherwise. Every piece is checked before it is listed, photographed honestly with any wear shown, and sold with a written condition report. Anything repaired or replaced is stated plainly on the piece's page.

This Panton chair was manufactured by Verner Panton for Herman Miller in 1971 and is made of S-shaped plastic. Panton designed the first ever chair consisting of a single element, formed from plastic, available in different colours. The S chair became Panton's best-known and most widely produced design.
